WEST SACRAMENTO — Pitching and defense took center stage on Monday at Raley Field, but unfortunately for Sacramento, it was Las Vegas that did it best, handing the River Cats a 4-2 defeat.
The 51s took a 4-0 lead against the Cats (66-51), then gave up two local tallies in the ninth before holding on to improve to 65-53.
Neither team scored until the visitors plated three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh inning.
Sacramento left fielder Shane Peterson gave his squad some life in the bottom of the ninth, launching a solo homer to center field, and the River Cats added another run before loading the bases with one out. But a double play ended the contest.
