METAIRIE, La. — Sacramento exploded for a five runs in the fourth inning on Thursday at Zephyr Field, lifting Brad Peacock to his team-high 11th victory as the River Cats topped the New Orleans Zephyrs, 8-1.
Already ahead 1-0, the Cats sent 11 men to the plate in the fourth, recording seven hits and building a six-run lead. Sacramento had five straight hits to start the frame, giving Peacock more than enough support for his fifth win in his last six decisions.
Peacock (11-7) struck out seven and walked just two, scattering four hits and allowing just one run. The right-hander’s only blemish came on a Chris Coghlan solo home run in the sixth, before he handed the ball to the River Cats bullpen to preserve the win.
Four different Sacramento batters had at least two hits in the game, led by Kila Ka’aihue, who finished 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. Collin Cowgill, Wes Timmons and Grant Green each recorded two-hit games as well.
The Cats and Zephyrs conclude the series Friday, when Tyson Ross (5-2, 2.83 ERA) toes the slab for the locals in a game that starts at 5 p.m.
