WEST SACRAMENTO — Bruce Billings struck out 10 Reno hitters, but the Sacramento River Cats lost the first game of a best-of-five series to the Aces, 3-1, on Wednesday at Raley Field.
Billings was on point from the start, but a third-inning Sacramento error led to two Reno runs.
Down 2-0, the Cats got their run in the bottom of the fourth, when Michael Taylor came home on a miscue by the Aces.
Each team’s pitching staff cruised through the remainder of the contest until Sacramento reliever Arnold Leon gave up a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning.
Taylor paced the River Cats offensively, going 2-for-3, scoring his team’s only run.
With Reno ahead 1-0, the series continues Thursday (7:05 p.m.) at Raley Field.
