River Cats find relief at Raley

WEST SACRAMENTO — Four different Sacramento River Cats relievers combined to throw nine shutout innings in a 2-0 win over the Tucson Padres on Tuesday night at Raley Field.

Michael Taylor provided all of the offense that the Cats would need in the fourth inning, homering to left center off of Tucson starter Brando Kloess. The two-run shot was his 10th of the season, and gave the outfielder 41 RBIs on the season.

Brian Gordon locked down the win for Sacramento, coming on in the eighth inning to record his sixth save with a two-inning effort.

The Cats victory comes on the same day that Sacramento outfielder Michael Choice, right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray and infielder Grant Green were chosen to represent the Pacific Coast League in the 2013 Triple-A All-Star Game on July 17 at Aces Ballpark in Reno.

Gray will be the starting pitcher for the PCL, making him the second consecutive River Cat to start the exhibition, after righty Graham Godfrey took the hill for the Coast League a year ago. Gray ranks fourth in the PCL with a 3.02 ERA. Gray is 7-5 and his 98 strikeouts lead the league.

The 26th annual matchup All-Star Game will be broadcast live on the MLB Network.
