WEST SACRAMENTO — When Alden Carrithers doubled home Kenny Wilson in the fourth inning Saturday, it seemed like just padding on Sacramento’s lead.
But after Reno scored twice in the top of the seventh, all of a sudden that run was the difference in the River Cats’ 4-3 victory over the Aces at Raley Field.
Carrithers had a pair of doubles in the game, and scored as part of the Cats’ three-run third inning. In that frame, Carrithers and Jake Elmore came home on a double by Shane Peterson, who scored later on Josh Whitaker’s single.
Those tallies helped Sacramento improve to 56-40 and made a winner out of relief pitcher Matt Buschmann (6-4), who came on to replace starter Drew Pomeranz in the fifth, and threw four strong innings. Jeremy McBryde pitched the ninth to earn his eighth save, striking out Ronny Cedeno with the bases loaded to end the game.
The Cats host Reno (51-46) Sunday at 1:05 p.m. in the final game before the All-Star Break. Peterson will represent the PCL in the Triple-A All-Star Game on Wednesday.
