The rest of the Sac-Joaquin Section has seen the Davis High water polo teams put a boatload of water polo balls into the net over the years. The Blue Devils girls have reached the championship game for the past 12 years, winning nine times — including the past three — and the DHS boys have been in each of the past seven title tilts, winning twice.
With no local let-up on the horizon, the only thing that is going to change is the name of those balls that will be going into the cage.
On Monday, the CIF announced that KAP7 International will provide the official balls for all Sac-Joaquin Section water polo postseason events.
KAP7 was founded by Olympic gold medalists Wolf Wigo and Bradley Schumacher to design and build innovative, world-class products for the water polo community. Based on their years of experience, they provide top-notch water polo products that are “built by water polo players, for water polo players.”
Schumacher, an Olympic swimming and water polo gold medalist, played collegiate water polo at the University of the Pacific. Snider, a Lodi native, played high school water polo under Courtney Porter at Tokay High School.
The agreement is for five years. KAP7 is also the official ball provider for the CIF San Diego, Southern, Los Angeles and Central Coast Sections, as well as seven other states, the Collegiate Water Polo Association, Big West Conference and the NCAA.
“We’re excited to be working with KAP7 for our water polo playoffs,” said section commissioner Pete Saco. “I know our coaches are thrilled as well.”
