RENO, Nev. — Kila Ka’aihue’s two home runs helped the Sacramento River Cats past the Reno Aces, 13-4, on Saturday.
The Cats offense took advantage of Aces Ballpark from the outset, scoring three times in the first and third innings. Ka’aihue’s first home run of the contest came in the top of the first with one man on base and gave Sacramento a three-run advantage. His second homer came two frames later, when his three-run shot in the third extended the River Cat lead to six.
Cats starter Dan Straily held the Aces scoreless through four innings before giving up a run in the fifth and two in the sixth. He exited after six innings, having allowed seven hits and three runs with zero walks and four strikeouts.
The three runs and seven hits allowed by Straily were both season highs, and came against the highest-scoring offense in the Pacific Coast League.
Ka’aihue finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs for the Cats, Jermaine Mitchell went 4-for-5 with three runs, an RBI, a double and a walk, while Josh Donaldson was 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBIs, two doubles and a walk.
The win is the fourth in a row for Sacramento. A victory on Sunday (1:05 p.m.) would tie the River Cats’ longest winning-streak of the season.
