Trevor Halsted, a Davis High graduate who ranks third on UC Davis’ all-time list for the 5,000-meter run, was named recently to his second straight Capital One Academic All-District VIII team for men’s cross country and track and field.

The junior earned the intellectual distinction by maintaining his perfect 4.0 GPA in mechanical engineering. He was one of just 11 winners from District VIII, which includes NCAA Division I schools along the West Coast and in neighboring states. Halsted’s credentials also were put forth for Academic All-America consideration, which will be announced later this month.

Halsted’s junior season was highlighted by his No. 3 all-time 5K run of 14 minutes, 14.05 seconds at the Stanford Invitational. He also made his mark on the 3,000 ledger when he went 8:19.39 at the Cal Opener in March to move into fourth place on the Aggie list. Halsted capped his track season by scoring third-place points at the Big West Championship in the 1,500 (3:48.12).

His cross country campaign featured a second-place finish at the Aggie Open and an eighth-place performance at the Big West Championships. The latter marked his second straight all-conference honor.

Not new to academic accolades, Halsted also was UCD’s winner of the 2012 Big West Men’s Scholar-Athlete Award.
