LOS ANGELES — Led by freshman Audrey DeNeffe, five UC Davis divers competed on the platform on Sunday in the final day of competition at the Bruin Diving Invitational at the Spieker Aquatics Center in Los Angeles.

DeNeffe notched a 179.85, the third-highest platform score recorded by an Aggie this season, to finish 17th. That was four spots ahead of UCD freshman Lucy Lafranchise who obliterated her previous season best by scoring 176.60 to take 21st.

Lafranchise’s previous high of 144.65 was set at the USC Diving Invite in November.

Also competing at the Bruin Invitational was Aggie freshman Hanna Tears who scored a 152.25 to finish 31st in her first attempt at platform this season. UCD sophomore Shannon Stewart posted a 144.00 to take 32nd.

Junior Lauren Jesse, also taking her inaugural platform dives of the season at the Spieker Aquatics Center, finished No. 34 with her mark of 142.20.

The Aggie divers will compete along with the swimmers in their final home meet of the season on Saturday, hosting CS Bakersfield at noon.

DHS wrestling

A couple of Blue Devils had good showings at a pair of wrestling tournaments last weekend.

Competing at one of the biggest girls wrestling events in the country, DHS sophomore Lisa Ghigilieri held her own in several 114-pound matches while gaining great experience at the Napa Valley Girls Classic. The tournament featured more than 570 female wrestles from California and other states such as Michigan and Washington.

Another Devil, 106-pounder Elias Lobuono-Gonzalez earned a bronze medal at the Armijo Invitational. The Davis junior defeated a fellow Delta Valley Conference wrestler from Franklin High in the third-place match.

DHS swimming

An informational meeting for Blue Devil boys and girls interested in competing for the swim teams this spring is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the DHS library.

Coach Tracy Stapleton says all interested athletes should attend and bring a parent.

Youth soccer

The Woodland Soccer Club — which fields teams of players from Woodland, Davis, Dixon and other nearby communities — will conduct tryouts for next fall’s season beginning next week.

WSC squads are affiliated with U.S. Club Soccer and the NorCal Premier Soccer League and the program features both competitive and recreational teams. Spots are available for boys and girls with teams ranging in age from U8 to U19.

Tryouts for boys and girls U8 teams begin on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Woodland Community Center Fields. For the rest of the times and location, or any other information about the WSC, visit http://woodlandsoccerclub.com or call 530-668-8070.

DHS track and field

The Blue Devil track and field program will conduct a parent/athlete informational meeting on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the DHS library.

Any athletes interested in joining the team for the 2013 spring season should attend as Davis coach Spencer Elliott will discuss expectations for coaches and athletes, talk about the program, answer questions and distribute roster forms and order forms.

For more information, contact Elliott at selliott@djusd.net or 530-219-4573. Information is also available on www.dhstrack.com.
