Last week, Davis High boys tennis standouts Scott Lucio and Dan Segedin won the Delta Valley Conference doubles title.

The Blue Devils pair found that magic again in the Sac-Joaquin Section DI doubles tournament, powering past Brady Hawkins and Mark Anderson of Vacaville, 6-4, 6-3.

Only a matchup with the top-seeded squad from Jesuit — made up of Avery Moore and Bobby Fretz — could slow DHS’ roll as the Devils fell, 6-3, 6-0, in the second round.

Davis now turns its attention to the SJS team tournament, where it will host Turlock in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) at the Community Park Tennis Complex.

The locals are trying to win their fifth consecutive section championship.

DHS boys lacrosse

The Blue Devil program is encouraging the community to come to Ron & Mary Brown Stadium Friday night for its Senior Night celebration.

This group of DHS 12th-graders has helped bring the fairly new squad to area prominence and will be honored between the 5:30 p.m. junior varsity matchup and the 7:30 p.m. varsity game against visiting Granite Bay.

UCD club water polo

After rolling through its regular-season schedule at 12-0, the top-ranked UC Davis women’s club water polo team opens its title defense today against host Minnesota.

Coach Jonathan Gullone’s team is making its fifth appearance in the last six years at the National Collegiate Club Championships.

In each of the past two springs, Cal Poly and the Aggies have met in the finale. Davis’ 2-1 win in 2012 was the program’s first-ever title and avenged a 6-2 loss from the previous season.

The Aggies are 4-0 against Cal (two wins), Cal Poly and Notre Dame this year — all teams that are in this weekend’s 16-school field.

UCD toils in the Sierra Pacific Division with the Golden Bears, Cal Maritime Academy, UC Santa Cruz, Chico State, St. Mary’s and Fresno State.

All 15 members of the club Aggies are California women with Danville senior Kelley Shaw serving as team president and junior Sarah Skinker (Bonita) as vice president.

Other roster members are seniors Samantha Miglian, Megan Reese, Tiffany Cheung, Carvyn Covella and Chelsea Bryan; juniors Juliana Bremer and Danica Fascella; sophomores Tyler Brown, Elizabeth Mock, Rebecca Cullinan, Kaylin Claypool, Denise Hager; and freshman Aleya Speilman.

Davis’ B team took third place in SPD play.
