Sports briefs: Catch the AquaStarz show this weekend

The Davis AquaStarz synchronized swimming team will give spectators a tour around the would at the club’s annual show, set for Friday and Saturday at Community Pool. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. both nights.

At the around-the-world themed show, the local swimmers will give fans a glimpse of their athleticism, dancing ability and coordination.

“Swimmers in this show confirm why the Davis team does so well in our league championships,” said AquaStarz President Cyndi Hughes. “Plus, this annual show is entertaining and fun for the whole family.”

The show will feature athletes ages 6 to 18, a “dads’ routine” and a raffle. Refreshments also will be available. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased from any AquaStarz team member or by emailing info@aquastarz.org. They also will be available for $6 at the door.

Youth lacrosse camps

The Davis Lacrosse Association is offering summer boys’ and girls’ camps run by former high school and college head coaches Lorne Silverstein and Suzanne Isidor.

Designed for players of all skill levels in grades two through nine, who are interested in developing and refining their playing skills, the camps will feature fun, focused instruction.

The events are sprinkled throughout the summer, with a boys beginning and intermediate camp running from 8 a.m. to noon next Monday through Thursday. A girls beginning and intermediate camp is set for Aug. 12-15 and the cost for each is $135.

Club officials announced recently that next week’s camp will feature two days of focused goalie training from local goalie guru Alex Gannon, as well as focused session on conditioning and agility with sports science specialists from the Fitness Garage.

For advanced boys players, an Aug. 12-16 camp will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day and cost $260.
