The awards keep rolling in for Davis High senior water polo standout Connor Stapleton, who on Wednesday signed a national letter of intent to play at Stanford beginning next season.

Stapleton also learned this week that he was one of seven Sacramento-area players — including junior teammate Graham Fullerton — named to the California-Hawaii All-America boys water polo team.

Stapleton was one of four Northern Californians on the 12-man first team, while Fullerton earned a spot on the 10th team.

Watney slips at Pebble Beach

After starting his Pebble Beach Pro-Am with a first-round 68 on the Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula on Thursday, Davis High graduate Nick Watney had tough outing both Friday and Saturday and missed the cut.

The former Blue Devil shot a 75 on Friday at Spyglass Hill, before carding a disappointing 76 for a Saturday round that featured five bogeys and just one birdie. Watney finished his tournament a few strokes over par, which was the cut line.

Heading into Sunday’s final round, Brandt Snedeker and James Hahn were tied for first place at 12-under.
