Sports briefs: DHS swimmers speed past Pacers

The Davis High swim teams hosted Grant on Wednesday at Arroyo Pool, but the Pacers didn’t leave much of a mark on the leaderboard as the Blue Devil girls won, 134-6, and the DHS boys posted a 130-12 victory.

Two Devil boys — Owen Yancher and Ben Hedman — touched first in two individual events, with Yancher adding a victory in the 200 medley relay to his wins in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. Hedman captured the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

Garrett Fisk was a first-place finisher three times as he won the 50 free, joined Yancher in the 200 medley relay and was part of Davis’ winning 400 free relay squad with Daniel Alvarez, Jonathan Desideri and Bradley Nicholson.

Other individual boys wins came from Robby Blattner (100 free), Wyatt Millstone (500 free) and Kazumi Watanabe (100 breaststroke), while Ben Diamant, Conrad McCarthy and Matt Raabe each contributed to relay victories.

The Blue Devil girls were paced by Nikki Adkins and Isabelle Bishop, who each captured two individual events and helped relay squads touch first.

Adkins won the 100 back and the 50 free then helped DHS triumph in the 200 medley relay (with Juliana Chan, Jessica Hughes and Alice Renaud) and the 400 free relay (with Bishop, Renaud and Kyla Leacox). Bishop’s individual wins came in the 100 breast and the 500 free.

Chan (200 IM), Leacox (100 fly), Emma Kaplan (100 free) and Lara Vanderbilt (200 free) also picked up victories.

Former Devil stars at Michigan

Davis High graduate Mikie Schlosser, who finished his Blue Devil career as the 2013 Sacramento Valley Lacrosse League Player of the Year, is now getting it done in his freshman season at Michigan.

Schlosser scored an overtime game-winner on Saturday to give the Wolverines (4-5) an 11-10 victory at Bellarmine, then followed that up with two goals in Tuesday’s 13-5 loss to No. 1 Maryland.

The former Blue Devil has scored six goals while playing in all nine of Michigan’s games this season.
