Sports briefs: Junior Blue Devils announce Super Bowl football and cheer clinic

By
From page B2 | January 14, 2014 |

Come get ready for the Super Bowl and learn about the Davis Junior Blue Devils when the organization present a free, noncontact football and cheer clinic on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Brown Stadium on the Davis High campus.

The event, which is open to football players and cheerleaders ages 6 to 14, runs from 10 a.m. to noon with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.

For more information, contact Craig Barksdale at 530-848-6581.

Baseball academy

The Davis Baseball Academy will conduct player assessments/tryouts for its U13/14 squad on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Davis High School varsity field.

Players who are 13 years old as of April 30, 2014 — or younger — are eligible for the tryout, which will determine the level at which that athlete should compete. As of Aug. 31, the team will compete at the 14-year-old level.

Players will be evaluated by a group that includes coach Kevin Keefer as well as other college and high school coaches and pro players and scouts. If there are enough players, two teams will be assembled.

Tryouts for younger teams — players ages 10 through 12 — will come next month and will be posted at www.davisbaseballacademy.com.

For more information, contact Keefer at 916-717-1914 or [email protected].

Post 77 fundraiser
The annual American Legion Post 77 crab feed, a fundraiser to support Legion baseball and other youth sports functions, is set for Saturday, Jan. 25, at Waite Hall at the Yolo County Fairgrounds.
A no-host social hour goes from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and is followed by a crab and prawn dinner. Tickets are $40.
For tickets or more information, call 530-662-9772 Monday through Friday between 1 and 8 p.m.

Aquadarts rib feed

Dive in and join the fun on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the inaugural Finger-Lickin’ Fin-Kickin’ Rib Feed benefiting the Davis Aquadarts.

Starting at 6 p.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Center, the fundraiser features all-you-can-eat barbecued ribs, chicken, salad and “other delicious goodies,” according to Aquadarts spokeswoman Miriam Fisk.

Tickets are $45 and may be purchased at www.aquadartsribfeed.eventbee.com. For more information, email Fisk at [email protected].

DHS football crab feed

It’s “yum” time in the Davis High football program.

Tickets are on sale now for the Blue Devil Football Backers’ eighth annual crab feed, which will take place Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Veterans’ Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th St.

At $45 a pop, this fun-filled outing features a silent auction, raffle, door prizes and a handful of surprises, according to organizer Rebecca Foster.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with cocktails and appetizers served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., when dinner starts.

Ticket costs include beer and wine.

To reserve tickets, volunteer or donate items to be given away, contact Foster at 916-402-1148 or [email protected].
