Davis High swimming did not play the part of good host on Thursday at Arroyo Pool as the Blue Devil boys sped past Monterey Trail, 133-28, while the DHS girls prevailed 138-23.

For the Devil girls, who swept the top three spots in 10 of 11 events, Julianna Chan, Colby Stapleton and Alice Renaud each won two individual events and contributed to Davis victories in the 200 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay.

Chan doubled in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, Stapleton touched first in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke, while Renaud was victorious in the 50 and 100 free races.

Kim Zhu (200 free) and Alyssa Alvarez (500 free) also won individual events for the locals. That pair was part of two winning relay squads as well, joining Stapleton and Chan in capturing the 200 medley and taking the 400 free with Mara Dominguez and Kendall Doten.

Stapleton and Renaud teamed up with Kinsey Van Deynze and Emme Van Vorhis to win the 200 free relay.

Though the DHS boys had one eye on Friday’s big road meet against Jesuit and Bellermine, they still picked up victories in every event against the Mustangs.

Zac Anderson won the 200 IM and the 100 fly for the Devils, with Tyler Ujifusa taking the 50 and 100 free races. Other Davis winners were Bradley Nicholson (200 free), Alex Borowsky (500 free), Garrett Fisk (100 breast) and Graham Fullerton (100 breast).

The Blue Devils also captured all the three relays, including the 400 free where Ujifusa and Anderson were joined by Ben Hedman and Val Dolcini.

DHS girls lacrosse

Playing their third game in as many days — and missing three of their starters — caught up to the Blue Devils in a 15-10 loss at St. Francis on Thursday.

Senior standout Kylie Drexel did everything she could for DHS, winning an amazing 12 draw controls while posting five goals and an assist.

“It was a good effort but we came up short,” said Devil coach Jenn Morris. “Kylie’s 12 draw controls were more than the entire SF team’s 11. It was definitely impressive to watch how she was able to get the ball at the center so consistently. On a different day that will guarantee a win.”

Kiki Tanaka added a hat trick with an assist for Davis, Kelly Chuck had a pair of goals and goalie Ally Weir had eight saves. However, despite a good performance from Natalie Serdahl, the local defense wasn’t at its best.

“We had a few nice (defensive) plays, but consistency was a problem,” Morris said. “We weren’t communicating well and we missed some key slides.

“There is room for improvement (on offense and defense) and it needs to happen quickly.”

DHS hosts Novato on Saturday at 11 a.m. — the opener of a doubleheader with the Blue Devil boys at Ron & Mary Brown Stadium — before taking a much-needed break from games through spring break.

UCD water polo

DHS graduates Trevor Allen and Teddy Nicholson are two of three Aggies who were named to the Western Water Polo Association’s Men’s All-Academic team on Thursday.

Senior Kevin Meisel, a three-time honoree from Atherton, was the other UCD player on the squad.

All-Academic recipients must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average, have played in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests and have completed a minimum of one semester or two quarters at their institution prior to the season.

Sophomores Allen, an economics major, and Nicholson (managerial economics) picked up their first such honors for the Aggies, who finished fourth in the WWPA and ended the season ranked 18th in the country.
