NorCal Extreme brought two teams to the recent International North American Roller Hockey Championships and brought back a pair of medals.

The NorCal 14U squad grabbed bronze with a win over Hong Kong in the third-place game.

The contest was the culmination of a strong tournament performance, as the Extreme finished round robin play with victories over the San Jose Rampage Gamma and the SoCal Puckhogs. Stubborn defense from Ryan Kowta, Dalton Byard, Joe Blakewell and Dylan Lee was key in the local victories.

Later, pair of losses gave NorCal a seventh seed in the silver bracket, and Extreme followed that up with a revenge win over the No. 2 KIHA Warriors to reach the semis. The attack of Caleb Hermle, Ricky Pacciorini, Tyler Shafer, Jack Skoog, Max Landy and Miguel Witham combined for two local goals in the 2-0 victory as goalie Nic Leacox posted the shutout.

Finally, Kowta’s goal in sudden death overtime gave NorCal the bronze.

In 12U action, the locals captured the silver medal despite going 1-2-1 in round-robin play. The win came over the San Jose Mustangs as Michael Cognetti led the scoring throughout the three-game set with three goals. Sam Blakewell and Brandon Pacciorini added two each to help the Extreme land the 10th seed.

NorCal then used goals by Steven Holm and Nick and Sam Blakewell — both off Jack Shields assists — to get past Arizona Groove, 3-1. Thomas Witham and Logan Baer were key in the local victory and goalie Max Muller turned away 18 shots.

Extreme got a rematch with the Mustangs in the semifinals, winning 4-2 behind Cole Skoog’s strong game, before a loss to the Alberta Bullfrogs in the finals gave NorCal the silver.
