Davis High graduate Nick Watney played a steady, even-par round of 70 to open The Greenbrier Classic on Thursday. Unfortunately, a large portion of the field completed the Old White TPC in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia, below par.
Watney went through the front nine with eight pars and a birdie on No. 9, and was in position to come in at 1-under before bogeying the final hole.
That left the former Blue Devil six strokes behind leader Jonas Blixt (6-under 64) heading into Friday’s second round.
Music from across the pond will be featured at the Davis AquaStarz’s annual synchronized swimming water show, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 11-12, at Community Pool, 201 W. 14th St. in Davis.
The show boasts “amazing costumes, hot British music and show-stopping synchro moves performed by the undefeated Davis AquaStarz,” a news release said.
Tickets are $5 if ordered in advance at www.aquastarz.org or $8 at the door.

Youth volleyball camps
