Straily sends Cats past Chihuahuas

WEST SACRAMENTO — Starting pitcher Dan Straily threw seven strong innings — allowing just two hits and one run and striking out eight — to get the victory as the Sacramento River Cats defeated El Paso, 2-1, on Monday at Raley Field.

Fernando Nieve and Evan Scribner each pitched hitless innings of relief for the Cats (25-19), with Scribner striking out two and earning his seventh save.

With his team down 1-0, Sacramento’s Andy Parrino hit his first homer of the year in the bottom of the sixth. Alden Carrithers then singled home the winning run in the seventh inning.
