The Davis High junior varsity boys basketball team cemented its first-place status in the Delta Valley Conference — improving to 16-5 overall and 5-1 in league — with wins last week over Franklin (60-58) and Elk Grove (59-44).

On Wednesday, the Blue Devils played the formidable Wildcats, who were previously undefeated against DVC opponents and 18-2 overall.

Trailing for most of the game, DHS nonetheless kept it close with relentless defense. The locals then pulled ahead with a 21-point fourth quarter as Kevin Austin (17 points, including 6-of-7 free throws) and Nate Curtis (15 points, four rebounds) made key plays down the stretch.

Ryan Kreidler scored 11 points and added an incredible seven steals, good for a Devil season high. Carl Burton-Hill contributed seven points and seven boards, Drew Gnos had seven points with three assists and Glen Welch finished with a trey and two rebounds.

On Friday, DHS dismantled the Thundering Herd, behind 17 points and five boards from Kreidler. Austin posted 12 points and three rebounds, Burton-Hill dominated the boards with 10 and Welch added eight points and nabbed five steals.

The Blue Devils got strong defense from Andrew Bolich and Dylan Klein, and other contributors included Gnos (six points, four assists), Bailey Yarrow (four points, three rebounds), Jerid Roberson (four points, two boards) and Liam Neville (four assists and three rebounds).
