Taking to heart the idea of getting better by playing the best competition it can find, UC Davis will take on the No. 1 women’s basketball team in the country for the second straight season when it faces top-ranked Connecticut on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Last year, No. 1 Stanford came to The Pavilion and defeated the Aggies, 87-38.
UCD (2-4) already has faced the Cardinal again this season — losing 66-48 on Nov. 17 when Stanford was ranked No. 2 — and now will try its luck against the defending national champion Huskies (9-0).
In college hoops, the upset formula usually includes a big day from 3-point range and the Aggies got good practice for that in a 69-67 loss to San Francisco on Friday. The locals attempted a school-record 39 treys in that contest, making 15 — two shy of another program benchmark.
Coming into Thursday’s game — which can be watched online at www.watchespn.com — junior Sydnee Fipps leads UCD in scoring (16.7 points per game) and rebounding (5.7 a night).
