Like most people who visit the vacation destination, the UC Davis men’s basketball certainly had a great time in Hawaii.
Using an incredible first-half shooting performance to take control of the Big West Conference matchup, the Aggies held off the host Rainbow Warriors, 93-82 on Saturday night.
Led by the red-hot shooting of sophomore Corey Hawkins — who made 7-of-8 from 3-point range in the first half on his way to a 40 point night — UCD was 14-for-21 (67 percent) from beyond the arc before intermission.
Hawkins made his eighth 3-pointer in the second half to tie the school record, held by teammates Ryan Sypkens and Tyler Les.
Still, after leading the game 54-37 at the break and pushing the advantage to 19 points early in the second half, the Aggies had to work hard to hold off Hawaii, which had the deficit down to seven in the final minutes. Hawkins, however, made 12-of-12 free throws down the stretch to seal game.
