The UC Davis men’s tennis team did not drop a set Monday afternoon en route to its fifth straight victory, a 7-0 shutout of visiting Eastern Washington at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.
With the win the Aggies (10-6) improved to 5-0 on their current homestand, which had included three shutouts. Monday’s match was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but moved up because of the threat of rain.
UCD opened with a pair of dominating doubles wins as Alec Adamson and Adam Levie teamed for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 and Brett Bacharach and Adam Luba posted an 8-1 triumph at No. 3.
The Aggies’ roll continued in singles place, where Adamson, James Wade and Bacharach each earned wins that featured a 6-0 set. Levie had to work for his 7-5, 6-2 victory and freshman Bryce McKelvie completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5.
McKelvie has now won nine straight matches to improve to 13-4 on the year.
UCD is back on the court Tuesday for a 9 a.m. matchup against Hawaii-Hilo.
UCD women’s golf
Four birdies on her front nine fueled Betty Chen to a quick start and the Aggie sophomore finished with a 2-under 70 to take a share of the first-day lead at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Maui on Monday.
The 37th-ranked Aggies, who owned an early lead during the opening round of the 54-hole tournament, were in fourth place at 10-over 288.
UCD freshman Paige Lee also started her week well, moving into a 12th-place tie at 2-over, Blair Lewis and Beverly Vatananugulkit each had 77s and were tied for 35th while Andrea Wong shot 79 and was tied for 52nd.
