UC Davis senior golfer Tyler Raber, a Davis High graduate, was finally bounced from the tournament on Thursday after a strong run at the 117th British Amateur Championship in Ayrshire, Scotland.
Raber finished 62nd in stroke play at the Royal Troon Golf Club to reach match play, then won two matches on Wednesday to get to the round of 32.
The former Blue Devil star who redshirted for the Aggies last season, dropped Thursday’s match against Toby Tree, 2 and 1. Tree is from the U.K.
Aggie junior Demi Runas lost to Kim Kaufman, 3 and 2, in the second round of match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship, held at the par-72, 6,221-yard Neshanic Valley Golf Course on Thursday.
Although Kaufman led wire-to-wire, Runas’ birdie on the sixth hole brought her back to a one-hole deficit. But the Texas Tech All-American rolled in birdies on holes 7, 8 10 and 12 to extend her lead to 5-up with six to play, then held on for the victory.
Runas had finished in a tie for ninth during stroke play on Monday and Tuesday to advance to the match-play portion of the championship, then defeated Catherine Dolan in the round of 64 on Wednesday.
A junior from Torrance, Runas captured Big West Conference Player of the Year honors in both 2011 and 2012.
