Following a sophomore season that saw him make a UC Davis-record 17 field goals, Aggie junior Brady Stuart has been added to the 2014 College Football Performance Award Placekicker Watch List.
The Aggie, who has 32 career FG makes, is among a group of 32 Football Championship Subdivision placekickers on the watch list. Stuart is the second UCD standout so far this summer to earn a spot on a CFPA preseason list, joining running back Gabe Manzanares.
Stuart, from Newhall, earned All-Big Sky Conference third-team honors in 2013 after passing Eddie Loretto’s Aggie season-high of 16 field goals, set in 1985. Stuart finished his campaign with a streak of 10 straight made field goals and ended the year ranked ninth in the FCS at 1.4 field goals per game.
He was twice named Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week, including after nailing four field goals in a win over North Dakota.
Stuart is tied for third with Rafael Fernandez (1989-93) for career FGs at UCD. Loretto’s 47 field goals from 1985 to 1988 sit atop the list.
The CFPA will name a winner at each position following the season by using “objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.”
UCD opens preseason practice on Aug. 4 in preparation to start the 2014 campaign on Aug. 30 at Stanford and host Fort Lewis (Colorado) in the Sept. 7 home opener. Season tickets are on sale now at the UC Davis ticket office or at www.ucdavisaggies.com.
