UCD women take 11th at first golf event

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Beverly Vatananugulkit and Betty Chen each fired even-par 72s in the final round of the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic on Tuesday, helping the UC Davis women’s golf team finish with its best round of the tournament to take 11th.

The Aggies, who finished Monday’s suspended second round on Tuesday with a team score of 28-over 316, posted a 19-shot improvement over that with their 9-over 297.

Leading the way for UCD over the final 18 holes, Vatanangulkit paced the Aggies by tying for 30th at 11-over, while Chen tied for 39th at 14-over.

Sophomore Andrea Wong, who had the team’s best second-round score (75), came back with a 76 in the last round, tying for 33rd at 1-over. Junior Blair Lewis shot a 77 over the final 18 holes to tie for 53rd at 18-over, and freshman Paige Lee matched Lewis on Tuesday and tied for 58th at 19-over in her college debut.

UCD returns to action at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational Sept. 20-21 at the University of New Mexico.
