Despite numerous scoring opportunities, the UC Davis women’s soccer team fell to No. 24 San Diego State 2-0 in a nonconference match Sunday.
The Aztecs were led by Angela Mitchell, who netted both goals.
Mitchell scored the eventual game-winner 30 minutes into the match. Less than a minute later, Aggie Kayla Collins nearly knotted the score, but her header was redirected safely away from the net.
With five minutes left before halftime, a shot by UCD’s Andrea Damian sailed just over the crossbar.
In the 61st minute, Mitchell capped the scoring for SDS (1-1 overall). The Aggies mounted a quick comeback but Damian was turned away.
UCD keeper Taylor Jern made seven saves. The Aggies (1-1) play host to San Jose State at 5 p.m. Friday.
