As they prepare for their first-round playoff game at Napa on Tuesday, the Lady Blue Devils got word that senior forward Ashleigh Vandenbrink and coach Karen Foster have been accorded the highest Delta Valley Conference honors.
Vandenbrink, averaging 16 points per game while corralling almost 10 boards a night, was named the league’s Most Valuable Player with Foster nabbing Coach of the Year accolades at the circuit’s annual coaches meeting on Saturday.
Validating the Davis High youth movement, Emma Stenz and Anna Belenis also were named to the first team.
Sophomore center Stenz emerged as a potent scoring threat (pouring in almost 15 ppg in DVC play) and top-notch rebounder (five times in double digits in league) in the second half of the season.
Freshman Belenis, a classic pass-first point guard, had eight assists in the Devils’ pivotal victory over Monterey Trail.
Sophomore swingman Katie Grahn — brilliant as DHS went 9-1 on its way to the conference crown — received honorable mention.
Stenz and Grahn are sophomores.
“I am so proud of my team,” Foster said, adding: “These girls deserved this recognition.”
