WEST SACRAMENTO — Third baseman Alden Carrithers doubled home second baseman Tyler Ladendorf in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Sacramento River Cats topped Tacoma, 2-1, on Monday night at Raley Field.

Cats righty Zachary Neal (1-1, 4.26 ERA) threw eight strong innings, facing the minimum 18 batters through the first six frames. He did not walk a batter and allowed just one run while striking out a career-high eight.

Sacramento, meanwhile, went scoreless through the first eight innings. Down 1-0, the River Cats needed a run in the bottom of the ninth to keep the game going, and they got it.

Ladendorf led off with a single — one of his three hits on the night — then consecutive singles by Nate Freiman and Michael Taylor brought him home with the tying tally.

Coming back up with two outs in the 10th, Ladendorf doubled to set up Carrithers’ heroics.

The two squads will match up again Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
