The Davis Youth Softball Association’s recent schedule featured a week full of interesting 10U and 8U matchups. Here is a look at the action …

10U

Green Hornets 9, Angry Birds 7: The Hornets scored seven runs in the final two innings to come from behind and edge the Birds.

Katie Gibson knocked in runs in each of those frames, including with a double, and the winners also got hits from Alyssa Yee, Lizzy Jones and Lilly Heilman.

Kat Eisele pitched well in the first two innings, while Molly Burke, Maya Wood and Sophie Purves played heads up defense.

Mini Blue Devils 16, Those Guys 15: Emma Dean’s double in the bottom of the final inning plated the winning run.

Dean added a single, while Rachael Bernauer and Grace Hickerson, who doubles, matched her two-hit performance. The Devils got two runs each from Layla Fitch, Georgia Eastham, Surina Beal, while Eve Brunette, Daniela Lane and Mya Kajley crossed the plate once apiece.

Those Guys battled valiantly, starting string with a four-run first inning that included a Noa Lipson theft of home. Clara Ault and Jazmin Roberts, who stole five bases of her own, had two hits each, while Sara Needles knocked in a run.

Tess McIntyre stole home in the fifth, and Those Guys got strong pitching from Katie Borowsky and Brooke Imamoto.

Angry Birds 10, Mini Blue Devils 9: After the Devils tied it with a run in the top of the final inning, the Birds scored twice in the bottom of the frame to clinch the victory.

Paige Ochoa and Cate Scheuring reached base three times for the winners, while Lauren Wilcox and Ellery McIsaac went 2-for-3. Megan Mullin and Miya Johnston scored key runs, while Angry Bird pitchers Lauren Wilcox and Isabel Rubalcaba had one strikeout each. Ochoa closed the game and punched out three.

For the Mini Blue Devils, Surina Beal smashed a triple, Emma Dean doubles and Rachael Bernauer and Grace Hickerson had one hit each.

Angry Birds 12, Those Guys 7: The Angry Birds scored in every inning on their way to the win.

Starter Grace Harrison recorded four strikeouts and Paige Ochoa (one hit and two walks at the plate) also pitched well.

Harrison, Lauren Wilcox and Cate Scheuring all matched Ochoa’s hitting line, Ellery McIsaac added two safeties and Megan Mullin’s aggressive base running included a steal of home.

Tyler Shoemaker, Miya Johnston and Isabel Rubalcaba excelled on defense for the Birds.

Green Hornets 12, Mini Blue Devils 11: A 10-hit attack helped the Hornets carry the day.

The offensive output included hits from Madi Winans, Mia Gladding, Lizzy Jones, Katie Gibson, Sophie Purves, Molly Burke and Marissa Thompson, whose safety was clutch.

Winans turned a nifty double play in the fourth inning, and Kat Eisele’s early pitching performance got the Hornets on the right track.

Emma Dean displayed a powerful bat, blasting a triple and two doubles for the Devils, whole Surina Beal and Grace Hickerson also had hits.

8U

Junior Mints 4, Bazooka Bubble Gum 1: Every single player on the Mints got a hit, but its wasn’t until a four-run final inning that it started to pay off.

Pitchers Kylie Martinez (two strikeouts) and Lily Hessl combined to give up just one run, with help from the sparkling defense of Emma Brayton, Maya Zingaro, Sydney Eberhardt and Lilianne Brush.

Anna Harrison had a pair of hits and two RBIs, Grace Scheuring knocked in two runs and Gaby Moreno added a hit and an RBI for the Junior Mints.

In another matchup between the two teams earlier in the week, Hessl had two doubles and Scheuring also hit a two-bagger. Pitching by Hessl, Martinez, Brush and Harrison was solid, while Natalie Simmons was good behind the plate.

Blue Devils 5, Giants 2: Four late runs send the Blue Devils past the Giants.

Alexa Folb’s pitching debut was a good one as she threw three strong innings for the Giants, while Addi Magness played a flawless shortstop and smacked a double. Other Giants with hits were Sophia Fucile, Emma Catacutan, Dana Joung and Audrey Teresi.

Stingers 6, Tigercats 0: Pitchers Makena Fix, Dakota Banuelos and Maya Beal combined for the shutout win.

Sarah Griffiths wielded a hot bat, hitting three doubles for the Stingers, and Lecia Earnest played well at first base and added a two-bagger of her own.

Sarah Lagattuta had a double and a single, Fix and Beal contributed two hits each and Erika Wenner and Rachel Boyd had safeties for the winners.

Stingers 2, Lucky Leprechauns 2: Sarah Griffiths’ key two-run single brought home Elizabeth Barger and Erika Wenner to bring the Stingers the tie.

Lecia Earnest’s putout at third base prevented the go-ahead run as Griffiths, Earnest, Lagattuta and Wenner combined in the circle.

Stingers hits came from Maya Beal, Barger (two), Makena Fix, Wenner and Lagattuta.

For the Leprechauns, Jordan Zuniga pitched well and scored two runs, while Olivia Fuszard and Sarah Maranta had hits. Sunny Silverstein also contributed.

Junior Mints 7, Giants 0: Kylie Martinez struck out the side to start the game and added two hits, Lily Hessl had a pair of safeties and struck out four Giants and the Junior Mints prevailed.

Hessl also shined on defense, along with Emma Brayton and Gaby Moreno.

In addition, Anna Harrison went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Lilianne Brush had two hits and two RBIs and Grace Scheuring knocked in a run with her two hits. Maya Zingaro scored twice and had two safties and single hits came from Natalie Simmons and Sydney Eberhardt, who also added an RBI for the Mints.

The Giants saw Emma Catacutan and Alexa Folb get hits and Sophia Fucile pitched well.
