Sports briefs: Hot Shots registration is this week

Registration for the Davis Hot Shots AAU youth basketball program will be conducted this week, according to group administrator/coach Dino Clark.

On Wednesday, ninth- through 12th-grade boys and girls registration will be taken from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Harper Junior High, 4000 E. Covell Blvd.

Batting cages to open

The city-operated batting cages at Playfields Park will reopen for the season on Saturday, weather permitting. The cages will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Starting Monday, March 5, hours will expand to include 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The cages also are available for private rental.
