UC Davis Campus Recreation’s Intramural Sports is hosting its annual table tennis tournament on Friday, Feb. 24, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Activities and Recreation Center.

Registration opens at 9 a.m. on Monday and closes on Friday, Feb. 17, at 5 p.m. and the cost is $10 per team. The tournament will offer singles A and B and doubles A and B divisions.

Hoops tryouts

Tryouts for the Davis Hoops Wildcats’ eighth-grade girls AAU basketball squad start Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Dixon High School old gym, 555 College Way.

Two more days of tryouts will be scheduled for that week in Davis. Players who make the team will practice twice a week in Davis and Dixon.

For more information, visit www.davishoops.com and click the “tryouts” tab or call Karen at (530) 219-8873. A required waiver also should be printed off the website.

Injury-prevention program

Young athletes are at high risk for overuse and traumatic injuries, and Sutter Physical and Hand Therapy is starting a program to help decrease injury risk and enhance performance.

Weekly one-hour sessions are sport-specific and are designed to support high-level performance with strength, conditioning, agility and plyometrics training. Led by physical therapists, the training will allow for early detection of injuries and preventative care in order to keep young athletes performing well and having fun.

The first session is geared toward baseball and softball players ages 7 to 18 and will meet from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, starting next week, at the Sutter physical therapy clinic on Lake Boulevard.

Sessions are four to six weeks long and are open to all youth baseball and softball players. The cost is $60 to $90 per athlete for each session. Another weekday session will be added as needed to meet the demand. Players will be grouped by age.

Soccer, volleyball and swimming sessions will be run concurrently, starting in March. Additionally, Sutter offers a six-week post-operative rehab group following ACL surgery for return to sport, and organizes ACL prevention camps for athletes as well.

For more information, contact Carina Abrams at Sutter Physical and Hand Therapy, (530)753-5338 or [email protected]
