The annual Post 77 crab and prawn feed, which benefits American Legion baseball and other youth sports, is set for Saturday at the Yolo County Fairgrounds.

The dinner costs $40 and will follow a no-host social gathering from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Waite Hall.

For tickets or more information, call the American Legion club room at (530) 662-9772 Monday through Friday from 1 to 8 p.m.

Five Starz volleyball

Devin Herenda, who competes for the local Five Starz Volleyball club and is the daughter of UC Davis sports broadcaster Bill Herenda, has been named one of 18 finalists for the PrepVolleyball.com national freshmen of the year.

Herenda ranked fourth in the country by averaging 12.1 assists per game in 2011, when she helped El Camino win the Sac-Joaquin Section championship

The 5-foot-9 youngster was named first team All-Capital Athletic League and was part of an Eagles squad that was ranked as high as 13th in the nation during the season.

Almond Blossom Run

The Durham Sports Boosters will present the 30th annual Almond Blossom Run on Saturday, Feb. 25 starting from Durham High School, 9455 Putney Drive, at 9 a.m. rain or shine.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the sports programs at Durham High and Durham Intermediate School.

Both 5K and 10K runs are offered, as well as a 5K walk over the roads and among the almond orchards of Durham.

Runners who pre-register (by Feb. 15) will receive a T-shirt (upgrades to a technical shirt are available) and medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each men’s and women’s age division.

Online registration is available at www.durhamsportsboosters.com and www.active.com or entry forms can be picked up at local libraries, recreation officers, sporting goods stores, health clubs and gyms. There is an entry fee of $30 for runners that pre-register and the cost is $35 on race day.

Lacrosse tryouts

Central Cal Elite Lacrosse, a competitive travel team for boys in grades nine through 11 from Davis and surrounding areas, will hold tryouts on Feb. 5 from 2 to 5 p.m.

The new squad is designed for players who would like the opportunity to train and compete during the high school offseason. UC Davis lacrosse coaches Adam Kenney and Jeremy Poirier will lead the team, with Kenney also serving as program director.

Team practices will begin in late May with tournament play through the summer.

Registration must be completed at http://davislax.org, with payment mailed by Feb. 1, to participate in tryouts. The cost for the tryout is $35.

For more information, check the website or contact Kenney at (530) 574-1009 or [email protected]
