In an effort to place more pets in permanent homes, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Department will join Sacramento agencies in lowering prices by 75 percent through Jan. 14.
Prices for dogs are $38, plus $8 for rabies vaccine (if older than 4 months), plus a $10 licensing fee if the adopter lives in Yolo County. Cats are $28, plus $8 for rabies vaccine if over 4 months of age.
Adoptions include spaying or neutering, health vaccinations, microchip ID and a starter bag of Science Diet food. In addition, the shelter will support the health of the adopted pet for shelter-related illness for up to 14 days after adoption.
The Animal Shelter is in need of liquid laundry detergent (animal bedding is washed daily); large bath towels, new or gently used; fleece blankets, twin-size or smaller for dogs; and small fleece pads, fleece yardage or bath towels; and small rounded fuzzy beds for cats.
In addition, the shelter seeks supplies to help provide basic care. Appropriate toys for donations are Kongs and hard Nylabones for dogs, and cats love standard ping pong balls.
Crunchy treats, Advantage or Frontline flea control, and pet shampoo all help reduce stress and make the animals more adoptable. Monetary donations can be used to sponsor spays and neuters of shelter animals or go toward general animal care.
Donations may be dropped off or sent to the Animal Shelter directly, at 2640 E. Gibson Road in Woodland, 95776. For more information, call the Animal Shelter at (530) 668-5287, ext. 0, during business hours: 10 a.m. to to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, closing for an hour at 1 p.m. each day.
There are limited services (no adoptions) from 1 to 5 p.m. Mondays, but the shelter will be closed on Jan. 2 for the New Year’s holiday.
