Ten Davis High girls water polo players received honors from the Sac-Joaquin Section.
The All Sac-Joaquin Section Teams for high school girls water polo teams in Division I through III were recently announced. The near dozen Blue Devil girls who were selected shocked DHS head coach Jamey Wright.
“Ten picks is amazing,” Wright said.
Davis goalie Hazel Beatty was named the section’s MVP. The junior played in all the Blue Devils’ 35 games this season, where she had a remarkable 323 saves. She helped carry DHS to winning the Sierra Foothill League, CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I and California Interscholastic Federation NorCal Girls Water Polo Championships – Division II crowns.
Six DHS players were named to the first team. Addie Sinclair, a junior attacker player, led the way as she had 91 goals this season. Sinclair, a two-sport athlete who started on the Blue Devils varsity softball team as a sophomore last spring, also played in all the team’s games. She also had 34 assists.
Katie Tapio, a sophomore utility player, was next on the list. She finished with 61 assists and 56 goals. Jessie Walker is part of the first team, as the junior attacker had 56 assists and 55 goals.
Hilde McConnell, another sophomore who handles the attacker spot, is on the list. She scored 50 goals and 32 assists. Ireland Greenway is next, as she completed the season with 22 goals and 18 assists.
Aiva Mann, a junior utility player, played in 20 games this season before an injury sidelined her toward the end of the regular season and playoffs, rounds out the list. She scored 46 goals and 20 assists.
The remaining three DHS players were placed on the section’s second team.
Adeline Lee, a freshman attacker, is one of the trio of the Blue Devils on the list. She finished with 43 goals and 19 assists. Harper Seto, a freshman center who handled the center of the pool, came away with 32 goals and six assists. Mia Leyson, a junior attacker, had 14 goals and 16 assists.
Davis, along with SFL foes from Granite Bay and Oak Ridge, dominated the first- and second-team selections. Granite Bay and Oak Ridge had a combined nine players.
Turlock and Pitman of Turlock, along with River City of West Sacramento and Whitney of Rocklin, also had players named to both teams.
